The main conflict in this book is addiction to drugs. Kristina, the main character, is having a real hard time giving up using crank. Every time she she is in trouble or stressed out, she turns to crank to make things better but it only makes things worse. She will cometimes become out of controle or get caught by her mom or the police. Even at the end when she gives birth to her baby and is trying to raise it, she still needs to have a crank brake. At the end she even said that the monster will always be apart of her.

The main conflict of Crank becomes very apparent even by the title. Kristina becomes addicted to crank and her whole world changes as she falls into a downward spiral of drugs and bad decisions. As “the monster” as she calls it begins to grasp her life her alternate ego, Bree, steps up to the plate and welcomes the challenges of the dark side. Bree not only starts with crank but then moves to taking other drugs and becoming sexually active. In the end she becomes pregnant and has to cope with her new life as she eventually becomes a mother.
